Keep watch over Easter

14 April 2022

If you’re out-and-about over the long weekend do remember to keep a look out for unusual pests and bugs.

In the last Bulletin we mentioned the Fall Armyworm egg mass found in a surveillance trap in Tauranga recently. This moth (not a known kiwifruit host pest) has been on New Zealand’s radar for some time, and Biosecurity New Zealand has worked closely with primary sector partners on keeping it out through things like importing requirements on risk goods, as well as encouraging growers to remain vigilant for signs of the pest.

Be on the lookout and if you see it (or anything else unusual) please make a report to the hotline on 0800 80 99 66 or online. The sooner we find out about unwanted threats possibly being present in New Zealand the more we can do to limit impacts.
