Meet a Spotted Lanternfly expert

19 January 2023

You’re invited to a special in-person presentation and workshop with world-renowned Spotted Lanternfly (SLF) expert, Julie Urban.

Normally based in the USA, Julie is travelling New Zealand to host a range of events sharing her experiences managing SLF, an emerging biosecurity threat to kiwifruit and many other horticultural industries. It’s native to Asia but has invaded North America, where its numbers have grown rapidly. The pest is hard to control and is a proven invader, capable of flying and hitchhiking on inanimate objects.

This is a great opportunity to get first-hand knowledge of how SLF is behaving outside its native range and take some valuable lessons from the USA experience and apply them to our own setting to ensure we continue to enhance our readiness.

The day will begin at 10.00am (with morning tea on arrival) with presentations from Julie, KVH and Plant & Food Research. Following on from 11.00am – 12.00pm there will be a workshop on New Zealand’s response planning and key preparedness activities we can initiate now, which you are welcome to also join.
