Biosecurity in the news

07 July 2022

You may recall the recent Tauranga Moana Biosecurity Capital competition we were involved in, where school children entered their own billboard design about keeping kauri dieback out of the region.

Congratulations to Carlos, the official ‘Guardian of the Forest’ winner, who’s artwork is now on display on Hewlett’s Road in Mount Maunganui.

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped in spreading the wider community message about biosecurity and why we should care about protecting what we’ve got – from the food we produce to the outdoor spaces we enjoy.

There was a great article in the New Zealand Herald recently about kauri protection and the newly formed Tiakina Kauri (Kauri Protection) programme, which includes a new National Pest Management Plan to help manage the disease and stop its spread.
