Seen something unusual? MAKE A REPORT
The team at Maketu Wetlands have a couple of events coming up that will be of interest to local kiwifruit growers and orchard managers for controlling plants and weeds in orchard shelter belts.
First up is a free, practical, hands-on workshop this Saturday 28 March, focused on local pest plants (identification, safe control methods etc.) where you can take home a pest plant starter kit to easily begin your own restoration work.
There’s also a moth pod collection challenge underway, running through to mid-June, with cash and spot prizes up for grabs.
Moth plant is one of the most invasive pest plants in the area and this is a hands-on community challenge to help stop the spread. All you have to do is collect pods safely (wear gloves, eye protection, and long sleeves); count them and then enter by photo or drop off.
For all the details on both events contact Janie Stevenson (027 498 5550).
