Fruit fly agreement update

The Fruit Fly Council, which consists of KVH, the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and other industries who would be impacted by a fruit fly incursion, have recently re-signed the GIA Operational Agreement (OA) for Fruit Fly readiness and response activities for a seven-year term.

This agreement provides certainty of how parties would prepare for and respond to fruit fly incursions and share costs both between the Crown and industry parties.

The Fruit Fly OA was the first OA under GIA, and therefore both the original and now this amended version has been significant pieces in shaping how biosecurity operates under GIA.

The kiwifruit industry is the largest industry sector who would be impacted by a fruit fly incursion and therefore KVH has played a lead role in the development of this new OA.
