Fruit fly response continues - no new finds

The Queensland fruit fly response continues in the Auckland suburb of Mt Roskill, with no further sign of the pest so far.

The response follows the identification of a single male fruit fly in the suburb on Tuesday.

Today, signage is going up in the control areas where measures have been put in place to restrict the movement of fresh fruit and vegetables. Designated bins are also being placed in the area for the disposal of fruit and vegetables, which are then collected for examination by specialist staff.

The legal controls are an important precaution while we investigate whether there are any further fruit flies present.

The controlled area has two zones – Zone A is a 200m zone, including 262 properties. Zone B covers a 1,500m zone, including 8,300 properties.

Information about the zones, including a map, is available on the KVH website here and the Biosecurity New Zealand website here.

Around 400 more traps are also being installed in the area .
