Fun Fact

The US government is giving out free wasps. It doesn’t seem on the surface to be the greatest of Christmas season presents, but the reasoning makes perfect sense.

To help deal with Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) numbers, the Oregon Department of Agriculture is releasing its natural enemy, the tiny Samurai Wasp, to growers and the right types of properties (not the general public).

This great video we discovered recently tells all – and features amazing footage from the lab that you wouldn’t normally see. Did you know for example that the wasps are so tiny scientists can’t even pick them up with tweezers?!

You can read more on the KVH website here about the preparedness work we’ve been part of in New Zealand to ensure the Samurai Wasp could be used to combat BMSB if there was ever an incursion here.
