Fun Fact

Not all Cobras bite! There’s a new one at the research centre at Lincoln University but it isn’t quite what you think ….

The hub brings together more than 100 of the world’s top biosecurity researchers and stakeholders to solve some of the toughest land-based challenges. Called the Centre for One Biosecurity Research, Analysis and Synthesis (COBRAS), the site is the first of its kind in the world and consolidates global efforts to predict and mitigate the impact of invasive weeds, animals and pathogens into a centralised hub.

Lead by Professor Philip Hulme (one of New Zealand’s leading biosecurity scientists) COBRAS works with Ministries, industry groups like KVH, regional councils, iwi, and international partners. He says the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to better protect international and national borders against invasive species which can cause multiple impacts to people, plants and animals.
