Spoiler alert – it’s a green vegetable bug nymph, found throughout New Zealand and not one of our ‘unwanteds.’

This fabulous bilingual tool from Landcare Research allows kids (big and small!) to identify the invertebrates found around them. There are lots of handy filters – such as number of legs, colour, and shape and you can also sort by popularity to see what others are finding.

You can have a go at swapping between English and Te Reo, and of course if there is something new and unusual you’ve found and can’t identify be sure to report it to the Biosecurity New Zealand hotline on 0800 80 99 66.
