At our Symposium last week we heard from Nick Secomb from the Department of Primary Industries and Regions in South Australia, who joined us live to discuss the numerous fruit fly responses underway across the state and their attempts to eradicate.

Some stats he had about their sterile fruit fly technique left many in the room aghast at the sheer numbers: there were 20 million sterile flies released every week from August 2022 through to mid-April 2023.

As if that isn’t astounding enough, release numbers will be doubled this spring as a new sterile fly breeding facility in Port Augusta comes online.
