Importer told to clean up

Four heavily soiled shipping containers from Melbourne were intercepted recently at the Port of Tauranga, thanks to a vigilant truck driver.

The driver spotted the dirt on the underside of the containers when they were being loaded onto the truck ready to leave the port. The importers were immediately called in to clean the outside of the containers – the goods inside had already been given the all-clear.

Drivers and other port staff receive training to identify contamination and pests as part of the Port of Tauranga Biosecurity Excellence programme, which includes KVH.
