Join the fight against the Yellow-legged hornet

The response to the Yellow-legged hornet continues, and kiwifruit industry members have a unique opportunity to make an impact on-the-ground in Auckland.

Led by Biosecurity New Zealand, the response team is after field support with Vespex (insecticide bait) deployment over the next two months. This is a chance to see firsthand what it’s like to be at the frontline of a major biosecurity response and lend a helping hand towards success for us all.

This is a paid opportunity, with travel and accommodation covered. All you need are:

  • Good fitness and stamina for full-day field work (eight hours between 7:30am – 7:30pm).
  • A willingness to become a certified Vespex handler (training is provided on your first day).
  • A full driver license and access to a mobile phone with data.
  • Availability for at least two weeks of deployment.
  • Flexibility to travel to Auckland Monday to Friday (weekend work also available).

You’ll be based at the North Shore Field Headquarters, primarily deploying Vespex. There may also be chances to help with trapping or nest tracing, depending on response needs.

If you’re interested in taking part, please email us at info@kvh.org.nz and we’ll get in touch.
