Olympic windsurfers and rowers fighting off invasive aliens

Even the Olympians are doing their bit to stop the spread of unwanted pests and diseases - showing big sporting events like the Olympics can leave a legacy of biodiversity.

In this article courtesy of the BBC, British windsurfers and rowers talk about their unmistakable passion for the water and how deeply aware they are that beneath the waves, aliens are creeping across oceans, up rivers, and along streams and canals. As we well know here in New Zealand, invasive non-native species are thriving, often outcompeting native ones, and have been identified as one of the top drivers of global biodiversity loss.

Olympians on the water are helping in the fight against this destructive flora and fauna using the “check, clean, dry” mantra everywhere they go.
