Preparing for Fall Armyworm incursions

Tauranga Moana Biosecurity Capital presents:

How Biosecurity New Zealand and our leading scientists are preparing for moth invasions and what tools are available to fight this potentially devastating plant pest.

Despite being on our radar for some time, it still came as a shock last month when an egg mass was detected in Tauranga and later in the Waikato region. An unwanted 'hitchhiker' pest, the Fall Armyworm is a tropical species that thrives in very warm climates and has the potential to chew through 350 different plant species if it can survive our winter.

Join us for this online event to hear from John Walsh, (Director Readiness and Response, Biosecurity New Zealand) about the current situation with Fall Armyworm and what we can do to help.

Amelia Pascoe, (Ministry for Primary Industries) will describe how we're preparing for future moth incursions and where the gaps are.

And we'll also be joined by Bill Dyck, (Forest Owners Association and Biological Heritage) and leading scientists Justin Nairn, (Scion), Lloyd Stringer and Gonzalo Avila (Plant & Food Research) to discuss the tools and technology available to control incursions in urban environments including smart lures and parasitoids for attracting and confusing moths.
