Psa Not Detected orchards and Red 19 license

19 March 2020

KVH has written about the Red 19 license release to orchards our records show are currently listed as Psa Not Detected.

Although being Psa Not Detected provides the benefits of producing fruit in a Psa free environment, if you received an email or letter from KVH and this status is incorrect it is important that you inform us before the upcoming licence release.

The licensed Red 19 budwood that is being supplied by Zespri this winter is from orchards recorded as having a status of Psa positive within the Recovery region. Under the National Psa-V Pest Management Plan, plant material cannot move from orchards that are Psa positive status to Not Detected status orchards. This means you will be unable to access Red 19 budwood from Zespri this year. From mid-2021 it may be possible to source material derived through the alternate tissue culture pathway and verified as Psa free. For more information on this pathway, please contact your Zespri Grower Liaison Manager on 0800 155 355 prior to tendering for the red.

If you have information that your orchard is Psa positive, we will require confirmation of this (in writing) from a professionally qualified person such as a Packhouse Psa Manager or Client Representative, or a Hill Labs test result. Please note that any Hill Labs Psa testing will be at your cost.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with KVH on 0800 665 825 or by email.
