Rare finds at Port of Tauranga

These pictures are of a frog and lizard (possibly a water dragon) found at the Port of Tauranga in a container of used heavy machinery from Australia.

The AP - which stands for Accredited Person and is a trained individual responsible for checking imported containers and cargo for pests and diseases – reported the find immediately to Biosecurity New Zealand and even used the Biosecurity Excellence programme’s kit to catch it, snap it, and report it.

Big thanks to the AP for his excellent work! This is a great example of the biosecurity system working well and kiwifruit growers being protected by a proactive community.
