Researcher presentation on one of our biggest threats

You’re invited to an open presentation on Ceratocystis from Professor Irene Barnes, a researcher at the Forest and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI) at the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Professor Barnes is a Ceratocystis expert who is in New Zealand to present at a conference and has a particular research focus on the invasiveness and movement of fungal pathogens on a global scale. While she is here, we have secured the opportunity to share in her knowledge of the biosecurity threat posed by Ceratocystis, and what they have learnt from dealing with it in South Africa.

During the last 10 years, there has been a marked increase in the number of Ceratocystis-related diseases reported on new hosts in new areas. Irene will specifically discuss those of most concern, which are causing decline of tree species, in forest landscapes and agricultural orchards – including on individual kiwifruit vines planted in already affected areas.

Where: Plant & Food Research, Te Puke
When: Wednesday 26 April 2023
Time: 1.30pm – 2.30pm
