Trans-Tasman collaboration

01 February 2024

Last week our Chief Executive, Leanne Stewart and the Government Industry Agreement for Biosecurity (GIA) Chief Executive Steve Rich, met with members of the Plant Health Australia (PHA) team to discuss potential areas of collaboration between New Zealand and Australian industry and government.

Similar to GIA, PHA is also a partnership between government and industry, however they have the added complexity of the Australian state system for managing biosecurity.

Both GIA and PHA partnerships focus on preparing for the arrival of exotic pests and diseases and responding when they do arrive, to prevent impact to industry partners and the environment. Although our partnerships are similar, we are also keen to learn from the areas where we differ to ensure we’re operating in the most efficient and effective way. This will be done through a series of engagement opportunities to strengthen our relationship and share learnings.
