Two stink bug detector dogs are being trained to join Georgie – who proved her sniffing skills at the Auckland wharf over summer in her dealings with contaminated bulk carriers from Japan.

One of the candidates is Daisy, a pointer cross with previous detector dog experience. The other is Bodie, a labrador.

Georgie, the existing stink bug detector dog, provided an important verification role during the summer, helping determine whether treatment had been effective with arriving vehicles and machinery.
