Phytophthora survey

Plant & Food Research, KVH and Zespri have been working together on a survey of Phytophthora pathogens in kiwifruit orchards throughout New Zealand.

This two-year project has a focus on spring and autumn sampling as Phytophthora thrives in wet conditions after periods of rain. To date over 50 sites have been included in the survey, with another 25 sites requested for the autumn 2022 sampling round. This round will begin in March, with sites across the Eastern Bay of Plenty (Whakatane, Edgecumbe, and Opotiki), Gisborne, Waikato and Hawke’s Bay of particular interest.

Any growers interested in being included in this survey or who would like to know more about this programme can contact KVH at info@kvh.org.nz.

Sampling includes the collection of root and soil material, and leaves, from four vines with both healthy and symptomatic vines included. More information is available here.
